"We are international students, alumni, practitioners, and migrants. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all, but its bearing on higher arts education, and UK’s Hostile Environment Immigration policy has been unique and intense. As a result, we wish to map the ways in which this is linked to the creative industry, the larger cultural sector, and the even larger political realm this sector functions in (i.e. huge tuition fees, visa status during studies, colonial curriculums, post study visa, casualised workforce, discriminatory practices within the institution, etc).
We are unpacking these experiences as students are forced to move back to their home countries through collaborative cartography. We invited students, alumni, tutors, and allies to connect with us in an effort to both unpack these experiences and build a network of action and solidarity.
The upcoming March workshops will discuss the impacts of the UK’s Hostile Environment within Arts Higher Education for students, alumni, tutors, and allies. We will facilitate these conversations through a series of interactive provocations that will contribute to a collaborative online map and the outcome of artwork produced for the Cypher BILLBOARD site."
