Artists


Exhibiting artists – Felicity Hammond, Erin Hughes, Holly Graham, Milly Peck, and Amba Sayal-Bennett – maintain diverse practices that intersect at key thematic junctures. With an assemblage-like approach, these five practitioners explore a breadth of questions surrounding public vs. private boundaries, urban redevelopment, histories of site, commercialisation of space, and mass-reproduction; navigated through a consideration of the aesthetic problem of image-reading. 

 

Holly Graham | October 2017

Holly Graham is a London-based artist. She undertook her BFA at Oxford University and graduated from MA Printmaking at the Royal College of Art in 2014, where she received the Thames Barrier Print Studio Graduate Award and the Augustus Martin Award for Innovation in Print.

Much of her work explores expandable and collapsable narrative structures, stemming from a preoccupation with the malleable and subjective nature of both individual memory and collective experience. Bound up in this lies an interest in recording mechanisms, documents, evidence and processes of editing.

Erin Laura Hughes | November 2017

Erin Hughes is currently studying her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London. After completing her BA in fine art at the Ruskin school of Drawing and Fine art, she spent three years living and working in Berlin where she is a co-founder of Cypher Space.

Recent work combines cut-out images from The Sims magazine with home decoration materials to look curiously at our implied domesticated desires. In Hughes' collages, the consumer aspirations virtually incentivised in The Sims are realised in decorative bathroom laminate and wallpaper lining, exposed in dead-pan Brechtian fashion.

Felicity Hammond | December 2017

Felicity Hammond received a Masters degree from the Royal College ofArt in 2014, and is currently undertaking a TECHNE funded PhD atKingston University.

Concerned with the decaying British post-industrial landscape, Felicity Hammond makes photographic collage and photo-sculptural installations that are allegorical depictions of simultaneously archaic and futuristic scenes. She is concerned with spaces where industrial processes have been discarded, and in their place stands computer-generated imagery of luxury living; posters pertaining to a better life and a better future. Her work challenges the way in which these sites that were once producers of power have now become a product of it, standing for both progression and error, and its relationship with urban temporality.

Milly Peck | January 2018

Milly Peck completed a Masters in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2016 and graduated from The Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University in 2012. She was awarded The David Troostwyk/Matt’s Gallery Studio Award in 2016 and the Villiers David Travel Award in 2015. She was also an AA2A Artist in Residence at Wimbledon College of Art 2013 – 14.

Often drawing influence from the over-saturated optical fields ofadvertising and commercial display, my work mines the area betweenflat image and three-dimensional object. Applying a stubbornlycartoonish register of drawing to both two-dimensional and lumpenmaterials, I am interested in exploring the disjuncture between ourconstant image ingestion and our physical handling of real stuff.

Amba Sayal-Bennett | February 2018

Amba Sayal Bennett lives and works in London. She received her BFA from Oxford University and her MA in The History of Art from The Courtauld Institute. She has recently completed her PhD in Art Practice and Learning at Goldsmiths.

Sayal-Bennett is interested in how one’s material environment can be encountered as a ‘live surface’, and her work engages with the sensations and textures through which ordinary life is experienced. It is this dislodging, or freeing of sensation from natural referents that she explores within her most recent work, principally through the de-contextualization, translation, and restaging of affective experiences.
